Requirements
Town of Ipswich Water Department seeks qualified candidates for full-time, union positions of Water Treatment Plant Operator 2T, 3T and 4T. These are skilled work full time positions involved in the operation and maintenance of the water treatment plant, wells, booster stations and chemical feed systems as assigned. Responsible for the operation of pumps, chemical feed equipment, and other appurtenances at the water treatment plant and all wells and booster stations to maintain compliance with all applicable local, state and federal Drinking Water regulations. Work is conducted and reviewed under the supervision of a superior.
Minimum qualifications include: HS Diploma or GED, supplemented by successful completion of specialized training in water treatment operations, chemistry or biology sciences, 2 years’ experience in a drinking water facility. Massachusetts Drinking Water Treatment Grade 2T, 3T, 4T full status or OIT certification is required with ability to upgrade to Full status within 12 months.
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or equivalent trade school certificate, supplemented by successful completion of specialized training courses in water treatment operations, chemistry or biological sciences.
- Two years’ experience in a drinking water facility.
- Massachusetts Drinking Water Treatment Grade 3T or 4T OIT certification is required with ability to upgrade to Full status within 12 months.
- Must possess a Massachusetts Driver’s License – Class D
- Working knowledge of the principles and practices of water treatment plants and associated facilities.
- Working knowledge and mechanical aptitude in the maintenance and operation of chemical feed systems and pumping systems.
- Ability to use precision measuring instruments, e.g. micrometers, dial indicators, depth gauges, volt meters.
- Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing; to establish positive public relations for the Town; and to interact effectively with a wide variety of individuals and officials.
- Ability to use and apply word processing and spreadsheets; knowledge of SCADA system technology desirable.
- Requires mathematical development sufficient to be able to: calculate surface, volume, weights and measures; calculate chemical dosages; calculate square roots and variable formulas; calculate plane and solid figures, circumference, area and volume; understanding of angles, and properties of angles.
Progressive Pay Schedule:
2T at step 1 $30.07; progressing up to step 4 $33.17 by or before one-year anniversary; annual step increases on anniversary thereafter until longevity steps; additional 4% COLA July 1, 2026, and 4% COLA July 1, 2027.
3T at step 1 $34.28; progressing to step 4 $38.00 by or before one-year anniversary; annual step increases on anniversary thereafter until longevity steps; additional 4% COLA July 1, 2026, and 4% COLA July 1, 2027.
4T at step 1 $35.46; progressing to step 4 $39.23 by or before one-year anniversary; annual step increases on anniversary thereafter until longevity steps; additional 4% COLA July 1, 2026, and 4% COLA July 1, 2027.
Overtime available
Additional Available Financial Benefits include:
- Following completion of training and probationary period, position is eligible for "on-call" pay on a rotating schedule.
- On-call pay is 21 hours at straight time rate plus overtime rate if response is required.
- Annual stipends: Work Zone safety $400; annual CDL licensing stipend of $1,000; annual Hoisting licensing stipend of $500
- CDL examination reimbursement up to $5,000
- Reimbursements: Annual $200 for safety shoes or boots; $40 driver's license renewal
