Community

Region & Demographics
Located in the center of Webster County, Fort Dodge serves as the County Seat and its most populous city. Fort Dodge is located in the Des Moines River Valley of central Iowa, just ninety-two miles northwest of Des Moines and sixty-five miles southwest of Mason City. It encompasses 16 square miles along the banks of the Des Moines River and is bordered by unincorporated Webster County. Fort Dodge is accessible via US Highway 20 Business and US Route 169. The City has 149.6 miles of streets and 319.1 lane miles. The United States Census Bureau reported Fort Dodge, Iowa, with an estimated population of 24,305 as of July 1, 2017.

Fort Dodge Regional Airport, which is located north of the city limits, includes commercial and passenger air service with direct flights to destinations such as St. Louis, Chicago and Minneapolis.

City Government
The City of Fort Dodge operates under a Home Rule Charter form of government with a Council appointed City Manager. A part-time seven member council and mayor set policy for the City while the City Manager and department heads provide day to day administration of City functions.

Historic Sites
Fort Dodge has many historic sites. With close to twenty historic buildings and numerous historic sites, Fort Dodge is rich in history. Famous among these is the Blanden Museum. This richness in historic architecture and culture lends itself to a sense of pride within the community.

Recreation
Fort Dodge is flowing with recreational opportunities. With fourteen parks, an 18 hole golf course, a full service aquatics center, miles of walking/biking trails and the Des Moines River flowing through the heart of the city, Fort Dodge offers endless possibilities for recreational pleasure. Fort Dodge is host to many local, regional and state wide athletic competitions including the Iowa Girls High School State Softball Tournament and the Boys and Girls State Cross-Country Meet. Programs abound for users of all ages.
