Qualifications
- Completion of 30 semester hours of post high school technical training in drafting, building construction, or related field
- Two years of additional related experience may be substituted for the required post-secondary education
- Three years of experience in maintaining or construction of water distribution systems or five years of experience in general construction
- Must possess a valid driver's license with good driving record
- This position requires the Driver remain insurable under the Company’s coverage
- Must possess an Iowa D.N.R. Grade II Water Distribution Operator's certificate or must obtain it within 19 months of appointment

Responsibilities
- About the Position: Under the supervision of the Engineering Technician Supervisor, prepares plans and specifications for review; performs field project management including survey, inspection, and documentation; and reviews plans for compliance with Des Moines Water Works' requirements or conflicts with Des Moines Water Works facilities
- Works with engineers to design projects
- Collects information on existing assets
- Performs field project management
- Supervises and conducts testing of water mains, commissions new facilities and coordinates activities of contractors and staff
- Uses various survey equipment to create accurate design drawings or as-builts for review by assigned engineer
- Prepares specifications for products or procedures, based on existing documents, industry standards, vendor information, and experience, for review by department manager
- Coordinates construction activities on water main and facilities projects, including management of impact Xenia Rural Water District (XRWD) operations and customers
- Coordinates testing of water mains including flushing, pressure testing, chlorination, de-chlorination, and sampling for bacteria testing
- Reviews construction plans submitted by other agencies or developers to verify compliance with XRWD requirements or to determine impact on existing XRWD facilities
- Ensures distribution system changes are entered into GIS software
- Creates pay estimates and reviews payments to contractors
- Maintains record of material usage and completed work
- Reviews material submittals and inspects construction for compliance with plans and specifications
- Schedules, arranges, and performs inspections of XRWD assets
- Documents construction activities and records as-built information
- Performs other duties of similar nature
- Often walks over uneven terrain
- Occasionally works in confined spaces
- Occasionally works at extensive heights
- Occasionally works from ladders
- Occasional exposure to adverse weather conditions
- Frequent exposure to traffic and machine noise

Education:

Experience:
Three years of experience in maintaining or construction of water distribution systems or five years of experience in general construction. Experience using ARCGIS mapping and modeling software is desirable
Licenses/Certifications:
- Must possess a valid driver's license with good driving record.
