Tech Center Maintenance operates raw water, potable water, sanitary wastewater and reclaimed water systems for the Meridian Metropolitan District. As a result of these operations, TCM is committed to using all of our water resources as efficiently as possible. The Certified Water Professional will support these systems and have the opportunity to grow their experience and certifications across all types of water utility operations.

Under general supervision, the Certified Water Professional (Collection and Distribution) operates and performs skilled operation, construction, maintenance and repair of Raw Water, Water Distribution and Wastewater Collection systems which includes multiple types of water and sewer main, valves, fire hydrants, service lines, water meter, wells, lift stations pump stations and other related assets. May direct the routine maintenance activities of full- or part-time employees as needed and will require periodic 24-hour on-call emergency responses duties. The pay rante for this position is $28.00 - $35.00/hour and the Certified Water Professional is also eligible to participate in snow and emergency call out incentive programs and the discretionary annual bonus plan. The Certified Water Professional - Collection and Distribution The Certified Water Professional, as with all Shea team members, is expected to conduct himself/herself in a professional manner that is consistent with Shea Core Values and the Business Ethics, Employee Conduct and Confidentiality policy.

Job Duties

  • Repair or replace District facilities such as drinking water infrastructure (e.g. pipes, valves, pumps, wells, etc.), and wastewater infrastructure (e.g., lift stations, pumps, pipes, manholes, etc.) and irrigation system operations (e.g. pipes, valves, pumps).
  • Maintain testing, operation, and repair and maintenance record keeping systems including those needed for permit reporting
  • Assist in management of distribution and collection system parts stock/inventory. Able to develop parts lists and order parts and equipment for specific system related repairs or new projects.
  • Manage existing District facility "locates" for construction of new facilities (service taps, water mains, sewer mains, etc) to be added to the District’s overall system by outside contractors
  • Become proficient with District new construction specifications and provide inspections for construction of new facilities (service taps, water mains, sewer mains, etc) added to the District’s overall system by outside contractors
  • Assist with meter reading activities in support of water system billings
  • Assist in general grounds maintenance activities such as snow removal as needed
  • May supervise construction foremen, crew leaders, or temporary employees as needed to complete such tasks as routine maintenance, repairs or installation of facilities
  • Present a professional and positive attitude focused on customer service and teamwork
  • Work independently to plan and complete job duties with minimal supervisory direction, including appropriate judgment
  • Will assist in pre-construction meetings and as built verification for new residential/commercial/industrial developments and new system infrastructure
  • Assist in development and the use of future planned asset management program
  • Collect distribution and collection system water quality samples.
  • Interpret SCADA data at District facilities to inform operational troubleshooting and decision making.
  • Maintain a safe working environment for employees and clients

  • Effectively balance the short-term responses needed in urgent operational events, along with delivering long-term asset management programs in Collection and Distribution systems.
  • Operate hand and power tools
  • Must be at least 18 years old
  • Must maintain a valid Colorado driver’s license
  • CWP Level determined by current certification level earned and active from the Colorado Water and Wastewater Facility Operators Certification Board. 
    • Certified Water Professional I:
      • Water Distribution and Wastewater Collection Level 1 (new hires will have 6 months to obtain these certifications)
    • Certified Water Professional II:
      • Water Distribution and Wastewater Collection Level 2
    • Certified Water Professional III:
      • Water Distribution and Wastewater Collection Level 3
    • Certified Water Professional IV:
      • Water Distribution and Wastewater Collection Level 4

Work Environment

The Certified Water Professional work schedule may vary. Hours are normally scheduled from 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. However, the position may be required to work overtime and/or weekends (Sat/Sun) to assist with business emergencies or heavy snow falls.

Work is primarily performed in a field setting, on diverse grounds surrounding apartment units, office, industrial and retail space environments and occasionally performed in an office environment. With regular exposure to heavy vehicle traffic conditions, frequent street-traffic and equipment noise, working with/near moving motorized equipment and hand-tools, mechanical parts, chemicals and airborne particles.  Will work in all weather conditions, with constant interruptions, risk of electrical shock and potentially explosive gases.  The incumbent will be exposed to wet, humid conditions, extreme cold, extreme heat, and work in tight enclosed environments.

Physical Requirements

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, stoop, squat, kneel, crawl, and reach with hands and arms and lift objects up to 50 pounds.  The employee is required to be proficient in speaking to customers, and have flexible and adaptable vision, including close, peripheral, depth-perception and the ability to adjust focus. Must be able to operate company vehicle during the course of duties.
